13 Natural Calm Smoothie & Cold Drink Recipes 🍹

Table of Contents

Wondering if you can add Natural Calm to your smoothie?

While most people take Natural Calm magnesium as a hot tea, it’s perfectly acceptable to add our magnesium citrate powder to smoothies and cold drinks. In fact, the natural fruit flavours and organic stevia are the perfect complements to many refreshing recipes.

Natural Calm is most absorbable and effective when it’s fully dissolved in liquid. In hot water, Natural Calm rapidly converts from magnesium carbonate + citric acid to ionic magnesium citrate, one of the most absorbable forms of magnesium. However, in cold liquids that reaction takes slightly longer.  (About 15 minutes.)

When preparing any of these Natural Calm smoothies or cold drink recipes, you can first dissolve your Natural Calm powder in a very small amount of hot water. Or, you can let it dissolve in a cool liquid for about 15 minutes.

We hope you enjoy these delicious, magnesium-rich and naturally calming recipes!

This article is adapted from Natural Vitality’s CALMFUL LIVING online magazine, with permission.

Nothing is quite like a cold smoothie on a hot summer day. But have you ever tried a Natural Calm smoothie that’s packed with green goodness?

We call this a “detox” smoothie because it’s so nourishing, and realistically, the way to “detoxify” is to eat whole, healthy foods whenever possible. This green tea detox smoothie is full of antioxidant-rich ingredients like green tea, pineapple, cucumber, lemon, avocado and fresh mint that will help to aid your body’s detoxification processes.

Plus, it’s a delicious way to get more magnesium in your diet, with a refreshing flavour twist. Lemon Natural Calm is the perfect complement to flavours of green tea, pineapple, cucumber, mint and avocado.

Tip: If a sweeter smoothie is desired, try adding a spoonful of honey, stevia or sweetener of choice.

1 cup frozen pineapple chunks

½ English cucumber, chopped

2 tablespoons fresh mint

½ avocado, peeled and pitted

For the sake of simplicity, if you’re making this for the whole family, just serve up a kid-sized portion to the little people.

Natural Calm Banana Almond Smoothie Recipe

Time is tight in the morning, but pausing for breakfast is a must; the health benefits of breakfast are well-founded. This morning meal translates directly to more energy, a boosted mood, and better eating throughout the day.

What if you’re not hungry? Or what if you feel like breakfast isn’t a meal you can easily digest?

Natural Vitality spoke with Ashley Koff, a renowned dietician, to find out why some people feel they just can’t face food in the morning. According to Koff, your morning appetite is directly related to stress.

Morning stress can send the body into fight or flight mode — a state in which you’re less inclined to eat.

Make breakfast a success by making it as easy as possible, Koff suggests, rather than striving for perfection. Add foods like cacao, seeds and whole grains. The magnesium naturally present in these foods can help reduce stress in the morning.

This delicious smoothie, with a dash of Natural Calm, delivers over 200 mg of magnesium. Make it as per the directions if you’re serving one person; double or triple the recipe as needed, if you’re sharing.

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup nut milk
  • 1 ½ tablespoons almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon unflavoured Natural Calm
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

Method: Add all ingredients in a blender, blend until smooth and enjoy!

Tip: Use pre-frozen, over-ripe bananas. Browning bananas give a more intense banana flavour and a creamy texture.

Natural Calm Blueberry Dark Chocolate Smoothie Recipe

blueberry dark chocolate smoothie with magnesium for heart health

Recipe and image courtesy of Natural Vitality

In a recent post, we gave advice for serving up Natural Calm when your kids have a penchant for sweets. One suggestion was to add Natural Calm to sweet smoothies. Here’s a recipe adapted from Organic Connections’ The Calmful Heart Health Book.

“This delicious smoothie is a great way to get in heart-healthy nutrients. It’s loaded with antioxidants; plus blueberries may help to reduce the risk of heart disease and improve cardiovascular health.

The flavonoids in dark chocolate also support a healthy cardiovascular system. Look for less-processed varieties, like the raw cacao powder used in this recipe, in order to get the most benefits from your chocolate.”

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 0 minutes

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup organic blueberries, frozen
  • ½ medium banana, peeled, cut into chunks and frozen
  • 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
  • ¼ teaspoon unflavored Natural Calm magnesium

  1. Mix Natural Calm with almond milk.
  2. Allow to sit for 15 minutes, for Natural Calm to fully dissolve and become ionic.
  3. Add ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
