For less fizz, add a small amount of hot water on top of the powder. Measure out the Natural Calm into your cup first and then add a small amount of hot water (about ¼ cup) just to cover and dissolve the magnesium citrate. This reduces the effervescence to a fun, manageable amount of fizz.
Remember that Natural Calm is like lemon. It’s a “citrate”, which means it has a touch of tartness. You can add it to nearly anything as long as you keep in mind that it acts like lemon. (Keep it out of your milk and probably out of your coffee, too!)

That’s because “the amount of magnesium your tissues can use is based on how soluble the magnesium product is and the amount of elemental or ionic magnesium that is released” (Dr. Carolyn Dean, The Magnesium Miracle, p. 243) Natural Calm magnesium citrate powder becomes ionic when prepared as directed, for fast, effective absorption at the cellular level.
Natural Calm magnesium is sourced from deep in the ocean. It is a naturally-derived product, but because it is harvested, not produced, it is never certified organic. The fruit flavours used are 100% organic.
There is no sodium in Natural Calm. Magnesium citrate is called an organic “magnesium salt” in chemistry terms, like sodium chloride (table salt), but the two are very different. “In chemistry, a salt is an ionic compound that can be formed by the neutralization reaction of an acid and a base. There is 0.015 g of stevia per teaspoon of flavoured Natural Calm (no sugar); there are no sweeteners or flavours added to the unflavored version.
Flavoured Natural Calm contains 0.7 calories per teaspoon, and 0.3 grams of carbohydrates. Unflavoured Natural Calm contains zero calories and zero carbs.
The unflavoured version of our Natural Calm does not contain any corn or derivatives of corn. The flavouring used in the other varieties (Raspberry Lemon, Sweet Lemon, Orange, Watermelon, and Cherry) does have a sub-ingredient that is derived from corn (organic maltodextrin); however, there are no corn proteins in the product and all flavours of Natural Calm have been verified as non-GMO by the Non-GMO Project.
The final product when consumed is magnesium citrate. It is created with a proprietary blend of magnesium carbonate and citric acid. Once added to water, a chemical reaction binds the two together and creates ionic magnesium citrate. As per Health Canada regulation we must list the ingredients in their elemental state.
The citric acid is derived from verified non-GMO sugar beets sourced from Belgium.

You may take Natural Calm’s magnesium with or without food depending on your stomach. It is well absorbed with food. Most people like to take Natural Calm on an empty stomach, and the vast majority of consumers prefer to take Natural Calm in the evening, about 30 minutes before bedtime.
Magnesium is excreted daily, so ideally you should take Natural Calm morning and night. The very best method is to add Natural Calm to a large water bottle and sip slowly from morning until night. Technically, Natural Calm will mix with cold water, but it is more effective when mixed with hot.

If you take too much magnesium, as with vitamin C, the body will use what it needs and eliminate any excess. My daughter doesn’t have bathroom issues – will this affect her in adversely in that area? She just turned 2, is still in diapers and has very sensitive skin so we already have issues with diaper rashes.
Hi Sarah. Magnesium can be a natural laxative, but it depends on dose. I would give her just 1/4 tsp before bed and see how it goes. You can always add 1/4 tsp in the daytime. I’d also recommend the new MagTherapy Balm. My little kids love it and it delivers magnesium through the skin without irritation.
NAtural Calm for Kids says 1 tsp = 2.5 g, so 1/4 tsp = 625 mg which is very high than the daily intake of recommended magnesium (80 mg for 1-3 years old). Are there any side effects by giving such high dosage magnesium? Further it says its ionic, so why give such high dosage?

Kids do tend to like it sweeter. For my children, I add honey instead of refined sugar. You could try that. Also, I add just a tiny bit of hot water because I give it to them before bed. Mixed with honey it’s a lovely, sweet little shot of magnesium.

When is the best time to give naturally calm? For an anxious, constipated child? For an ADHD child? Do you give the dose once a day or twice? How long until you see or experience noticeable benefits.

Every child is different. It depends on their age, diet, condition and how they metabolize magnesium. Please see the dosing guidelines on the Natural Calm Kids product page.
If you can, split the daily dose into two or three smaller doses – this helps with magnesium absorption. You can add the complete dose to a bottle of water and have the child sip periodically throughout the day if that’s easier.

The kids’ formula is the same as the adult formula – regular Natural Calm magnesium citrate. The only difference is that the kids’ bottle includes dosing by age. I would suggest ordering samples from our store so you can try the other flavours or the unflavoured version.
There are several ways to help small kids take Natural Calm. We sometimes add honey or a splash of juice if they need more sweetness.

Sorry for the delay. Natural Calm Kids is the same as Natural Calm magnesium – the adult version. It has the same potency. The difference is that the Kids bottle has dosing by age. So, you can order any flavour of the regular Natural Calm for your son and follow age-appropriate dosing.
You can add Natural Calm to almost any liquid, but dissolve it in hot water first. Avoid mixing with milk, caffeinated products (obviously for older kids and adults) and taking it with sugary drinks somewhat undermines the health-benefits of taking magnesium because sugar depletes magnesium.

My son won’t take this in drink form. So I mixed it in yogurt and I noticed a difference in bedtime, but I want to make sure that it’s safe to mix with yogurt before I keep doing it in yogurt. Thanks!!
It is definitely safe to use with yogurt! The magnesium becomes ionic (and better absorbed) when fully dissolved. In cold liquids (or semi-liquids) this takes a bit longer than in hot liquids. I would mix it a bit in advance to be sure it’s fully dissolved.
See great results as it takes the ‘edge’ off my 5yo. However it’s a huge fight to get it down. Would LOVE a gummy option!

Hi, Magnesium is great for tics and twitches, I find the trandermal options work right away and are really good for tics and spasms and growing pains as well

This flavour is not as sour as regular lemon and reminds me of a childhood candy. My young daughter really likes her magnesium ‘tea’ in the evening. We will buy this again.

Natural,Calm Kids works very well and has helped the boys a lot, however, the raspberry lemon flavour is very strong and the kids don’t like it. Which makes it very hard to hide in their drinks. I would prefer a no flavour version.
